In Mexico City, for example, civil legislation recognizes filiation through procreational will. This means that when a person or couple resorts to an assisted human reproduction technique (ART), signing the informed consent before starting the medical procedure constitutes the legal proof to document and prove paternity or maternity, regardless of the biological or genetic origin of the gametes.
